    Awesome product, was wondering if their 575 model would fit also. It does need a little more juice to do the 50 watts??

    A single band GMRS would not be referred to as a shack in a box. That's a term more for something like a IC-7100 or the like, all modes, all bands generally. Along the same lines not many folk would show you to their radio shack is they had just a single GMRS rig. It would just be a part of a room not the purpose of a room unless you're just the guy with lots of extra rooms. Kool bits o kit you guys build though.

    Is this unit 12 volt regulated?

    • @hardenedpower
      @hardenedpower 4 роки тому

      There is no regulation, but the LiFePo4 battery bank provides 12.5 - 12.8 volts through 90% of it's power curve. Voltage drop under load is small. This allows us to avoid the cost, complexity, and failure-modes created by the additional component.

    Sign me up.... I need one ASAP! Really nice design as a 'grab & go' box.... is there only one size for now?

    • @hardenedpower
      @hardenedpower 4 роки тому

      Thanks, Vic! Yes, for now, only this size... we will begin development soon on the next unit in the 'Air' series... we are still debating what should be the priority next: Smaller (like the Operators) or larger (like the Commanders). The Operator Air would develop quicker, be simpler, and less expensive. A Commander would take more time and be more complex... If you want the Recon Air, visit the product page here: www.portableuniversalpower.com/recon-air/ ...and make your purchase, or call the shop at (931) 207-0079 if you have questions.

    I'm interested! I have a year round creek in the back yard.

  • @wjf213
    @wjf213 5 років тому

    That's very slick. I've never seen one of these before, and I'm very interested in learning more about it. A couple questions for now, is that standard PVC pipe for now for proof of concept, or is it furniture grade PVC pipe, which is UV rated to be outdoors? Can you angle the nose and tail up some to increase the water flow to the water wheel and would that increase the GPH? I'm thinking for watering a large garden and possibly live stock. Having almost 500 GPD of water is more than most will ever need for everyday use. Keep up the great work.

    • @hardenedpower
      @hardenedpower 5 років тому

      It is standard schedule 40 PVC. My research into the effects of UV made me comfortable with this choice. UV degradation, even long-term, only penetrates a few thousandths of an inch into the surface of standard PVC, the only real effect being discoloration, but not mechanical degradation. Furniture grade PVC is treated to not discolor. I wanted the nose in the water to deflect any floating debris from the paddles... that said, yes, If the nose cleared the water you would likely see an rpm increase. A machine like this, though is not about speed so much as torque. It is inherently slow-moving, which should prolong the life of the whole assembly, and makes the effects of imbalances less pronounced.

    • @wjf213
      @wjf213 5 років тому

      @@hardenedpower That's a good point about speed, balance, and resulting vibration, and it will shorten the life of the pump. I guess building one or two more would be the way to go if more water is needed. Maybe in the future, design a multiple wheel pump, with one behind the other, and the water hoses are spliced together and going to one feed hose. I'm just the kind of person who likes a back up for the really important things like power and water. This is a little off topic, but have you guys ever considered building a compact, simple, light weight way to carry in a back pack, a radio like the Midland MTX400? Keep up the great work.
